TCFBO #033: The Commitment Check

The transformative effect of physically signing up to your goals.

Read Time: 2.5 minutes

As we approach the end of the year, no doubt you’ll be thinking about the goals you have for next year.

Maybe you’ve gone a step further and broken those goals down into projects to help you accomplish them.

However, have you made a commitment to achieving those results yet?

Because when you consciously commit to the results you desire you are committing to continue to take action until you create them.

And if your results are aligned with your vision, then you are also recommitting to bring your vision into reality, piece by piece.

One way we’ll test the commitment of team members to deliver future results is to ask each person to make their commitment by physically signing a piece of paper.

This is especially important if you’ve set yourself a one-year plan with results you expect to accomplish within the next 12 months.

There is something very powerful about signing your name on a piece of paper stating what you are committing to.

Even if you’re a solopreneur.

It’s as if you are signing a contract with yourself.

It’s like the power of your word on steroids!

So make sure you’re certain you’re going to deliver before you commit.

Over the years of doing this commitment check, there’s something we’ve noticed.

Asking people to commit brings up a lot of resistance.

Even if they’ve been part of defining the future results and have agreed with everything right up to that point in the process.

Often the reason for not wanting to commit is because they still have concerns but haven’t voiced them.

This is great!

Because having concerns raised now may highlight something critical that may have been overlooked and needs to be addressed in order to succeed.

Sometimes it’s because the deliverables aren’t clearly defined.

Sometimes the deliverables are too far out of a person’s control.

Sometimes the timescales feel unrealistic.

Sometimes it’s because the deliverables haven’t been broken down into small enough steps to see a route through to the end result.

Sometimes it’s because the most important step of all has been skipped over...

experiencing the results in your imagination as if they’ve already been accomplished.

If you’ve addressed all these points and still find you or your team are struggling to truly commit to your desired results, then take a look at the “If Only…” technique.

It’ll help you uncover the issues that may be causing uncertainty.

Once you’ve got that 100% feeling of certainty, you’ll find it much easier to make that commitment.

So are you prepared to commit to your desired results for next year?

To keep taking action?

To do whatever it takes?

Day after day?

Week after week?

Month after month?

If so, fantastic!!

Go ahead and sign your name to your goals!

If not, it’s time to revisit your Life Vision and your Business Vision and make sure they are still in alignment.

Not only with each other.

But also with who you are at the very core of your being.
