TCFBO #008: The Power of Your Word

Why do some people seem to achieve their goals almost effortlessly whilst others struggle to accomplish even the simplest of tasks?

One thing we see as a major contributing factor is the consistency with which a person lives by the premise:

“Your Word Is Law in the Universe”

This is a premise we learned over 18 years ago from the author and motivational speaker, T. Harv Eker.

But what exactly does this premise mean? And why is it so important?

Well, have you ever had someone say they were going to do something for you and then they didn’t do it?

Maybe they said they’d return your call, but didn’t.

Maybe they said they’d send you some information, but didn’t.

Maybe they said they’d introduce you to someone, but didn’t.

What did you honestly think about that person when they didn’t do what they said they were going to do?

Did you think they were unreliable?

Did your level of trust in them decrease?

Did you think they’re not someone you could depend on?

The bottom line is, as human beings we’ve learned not to trust someone who doesn’t keep their word.

So what happens if you say you’re going to do something and then you don’t?

Well, at some level you are sending a message to yourself that you cannot be trusted.

You may blame circumstances.

You may make excuses.

You may justify why you didn’t do it.

But deep down you know you can’t trust yourself.

And this has a massive impact on what you accomplish.

So you set a goal.

You say you’re going to double your turnover in the next 12 months.

But your mind says: “Nah. Not going to happen.”

Why?

Because it’s got evidence after evidence after evidence that when you say something it doesn’t happen.

That time you said you were going to workout at the gym but felt too tired? Evidence that what you say doesn’t happen.

That time you said you’d go to a party but ended up working instead? Evidence that what you say doesn’t happen.

That time you said you’d get your accounts done six months ahead of the deadline but ended up giving the books to your accountant one week before they were due? Evidence that what you say doesn’t happen.

However, the flip side to this is that every time you say something and it does happen you are demonstrating to yourself that you are a powerful creator.

Because you are taking a thought and turning that thought into a declaration and turning that declaration into a tangible result.

Even something as simple as: “I am going to mow the lawn.”

Because when you go out and mow the lawn your mind has evidence that when you say something, it happens.

And the more you say something and it happens, the more you trust yourself.

And the more you trust yourself the greater the things you’ll be able to create.

And the more you’ll start seeing yourself as a very powerful person because everything you say comes true.

So that when you set a goal to double your turnover in the next 12 months your mind says: “Yep! That’s going to happen because everything I say comes true.”
