TCFBO #051: Words of Wisdom

Five quotes to help put things in perspective.

“Nothing has meaning except for the meaning you give it.” – T. Harv Eker

We both love this quote and refer to it often.

It reminds us that our perspective is just that…our perspective…and that somebody else viewing the same thing may have an entirely different perspective and ascribe a completely different meaning to the one we have given it.

So, with that in mind, here are four more quotes with our interpretation of what they mean to us.

"The only way to do great work is to love what you do." – Steve Jobs

In our opinion, this isn’t about only doing what you love and refusing to do anything else.

Nor is it about thinking that we can do stuff we don’t love and accepting the work we do will be less than great.

For us this is about finding a way to love what we do no matter what it is we’re doing.

Because, if we can find a way to love doing something that we’d rather not have to do but that we know has to be done, we train our minds to notice the things we love.

And when we do this, we become grateful about what we’re doing.

And when we are truly grateful for what we’re doing, we end up doing some really great work.

"If you love what you are doing, you will be successful." – Albert Schweitzer

We view this quote slightly differently from what was actually said.

We think it’s more like:

“If you love what you are doing, you are already successful.”.

Because for us, success is living from your heart, your true self.

And if you love what you are doing you are already living from your heart.

“The way to get started is to quit talking and begin doing." – Walt Disney

Paul loves planning and managing and Philly loves doing.

So this is a useful quote for Philly to use to remind Paul that enough time has been spent thinking things through and that if we’ve decided it’s something we’d love to do then we just need to take that first step and see what unfolds.

It doesn’t matter how small that first step is, taking action and the momentum that subsequently builds is what’s important.

"Challenges are what make life interesting and overcoming them is what makes life meaningful." – Joshua J. Marine

When we’re faced with challenges we’d rather not face, this quote reminds us to remember challenges we’ve previously faced, what we did to overcome them and what the outcomes were.

Because once we overcome a challenge we generally find our life or business is enhanced in some way.

So remembering this turns the current challenge from something we’d rather not have to deal with into something that we now have a strong desire to overcome because we know there is a prize on the other side and we’re keen to find out what that prize is.

So they’re the meanings we give to each of these quotes.

But what do each of these mean to you?

We’d love to hear your perspective so just hit reply and let us know and we’ll see you next week.
